Explore the seamless blend of nature, heritage, and artistry in Sorol Art Museum's architectural masterpiece.
Discover the architectural brilliance of Sorol Art Museum, a captivating addition to Gangneung's scenic landscape. Designed by Meier Partners, this museum stands as an iconic destination, blending simplicity, heritage, and a profound connection with nature.

Aesthetic Integration with Nature
Situated in the heart of Gyo-Dong 7 Public Park, Sorol Museum seamlessly integrates with the undulating topography. The design embraces the surrounding landscape, offering panoramic views from its elevated plateau. The park's lush greenery, walking paths, and forests become an integral part of the museum experience.

Interaction Between Interior and Landscape
The architectural vision emphasizes a continuous interaction between the museum's interior and the natural surroundings. Extroverted circulation with open views of the park creates a captivating journey for visitors. The gallery spaces, designed for controlled natural light, ensure a serene backdrop for world-class art exhibitions.

Korean Confucianism Influence
Rooted in the philosophy of Korean Confucianism, Sorol Art Museum reflects simplicity, materiality, and compositional harmony. The design pays homage to traditional Korean architecture, featuring a central courtyard and three distinct volumes—the north wing, a cantilevered pavilion; the immaculate "cube" housing galleries and offices; and a transparent pavilion for the entrance, lobby, and café.

Immersive Arrival Experience
The immersive experience begins with a winding road through a wooded hill, followed by pedestrian paths that guide visitors through the park's landscape. The museum's layout, including a central courtyard and a signature ramp, facilitates seamless movement between indoor and outdoor spaces, fostering interaction with exhibits and the reflecting pool.

Pure and Serene Exhibition Spaces
Sorol Art Museum stands out for its pure and serene interior exhibition spaces. The "cube" houses a collection within an extra-tall space crowned with a skylight, strategically designed windows enliven the space with controlled natural light, and each gallery offers a unique character. Curators can tailor the lighting experience to suit the specific requirements of each art piece.
Sorol Art Museum is a testament to architectural excellence, blending heritage, simplicity, and a deep connection with nature. Explore the immersive journey it offers, where art and design harmonize in the heart of Gangneung, South Korea.
