Haus aa is a striking example of contemporary office interior design that transforms an industrial warehouse into a dynamic, light-filled workspace. Rooted in the concept developed by Aaron Nieh Workshop, the design dissolves traditional spatial boundaries, allowing the office to “perch and happen” organically rather than conforming to rigid forms. The project is a thoughtful adaptation of an old First Bank warehouse, embracing its historical character while redefining the functionality of modern office spaces.

Preserving Industrial Heritage

The design pays homage to the warehouse's original story. Exposed structural elements, concrete surfaces, and the original number marks remain intact, while repaired surfaces are carefully plastered and painted to complement the aged aesthetic. This approach preserves the building’s authentic industrial charm, creating a calm, nourishing atmosphere that enhances creativity and collaboration.

Spatial Design and Interaction

Functional zones are articulated through cubic forms that define personal and work areas without isolating them. These cubes feature intentional openings, promoting visual and conversational connections across the office. The interplay between stainless steel countertops, rough concrete textures, and geometric volumes adds tactile contrast, enriching the sensory experience.

Light, Reflections, and Organic Flow

Two floor-to-ceiling windows allow sunlight to travel through the space, reflecting off surfaces and interacting with the interior geometry. This dialogue between natural light and mirrors blurs the boundary between inside and outside, connecting the organic outdoor environment with the workspace. The shifting play of light and shadow across mirrored columns and cubic partitions creates an untamed, fluid spatial experience that evolves with the rhythms of daily office life.

Materiality and Atmosphere

The combination of raw concrete, polished stainless steel, and subtle plaster finishes results in a balanced, modern-industrial aesthetic. The material choices reinforce the office’s adaptive reuse ethos, blending history and contemporary design to create a harmonious, functional, and inspiring workplace.
