Intersection House by Luc Spits Architecture: A Dialogue of Light, Material, and Emotion
Intersection House in Liège by Luc Spits Architecture blends concrete, bluestone, glass, and light into a minimalist, emotive contemporary villa.
Located in Liège, Belgium, the Intersection House by Luc Spits Architecture redefines the contemporary villa as a sanctuary of light, material honesty, and emotional resonance. Completed in 2022, the 560 m² residence balances monumentality with transparency, blending raw materiality with fluid spatial connections.

Architectural Vision
The design emerged from the client’s desire for a private, introspective home—one that would foster serenity while embracing architectural clarity. Surrounded by bluestone walls and concrete sails, the villa creates a protective envelope that opens into a luminous central atrium. This atrium, formed by the intersection of two half-squares in glass and metal, becomes the heart of the project. Its floating floor introduces a sense of verticality and geometric precision, a hallmark of Luc Spits’ architectural language.

Spatial Composition
Organized across two levels, the house emphasizes openness and continuity. The ground floor integrates a kitchen that flows seamlessly into the living and dining spaces, encouraging communal interaction. A sculptural blue metal staircase anchors the interior, leading to the private bedrooms and leisure areas on the upper floor.
On the first floor, a generous solarium opens to light-filled spaces, softened by the raw concrete façade that creates both intimacy and contrast. This interplay of openness and enclosure strengthens the architectural narrative of balance between lightness and solidity.

Materiality and Atmosphere
The villa’s identity is rooted in the expressive power of raw materials:
- Concrete, celebrated for its strength and sculptural quality
- Bluestone, connecting deeply with the client’s personal history
- Glass, ensuring transparency and openness
- Metal, introducing precision and lightness
This palette creates a mineral atmosphere, where clarity of form and deliberate restraint give rise to both elegance and functionality. The Vektron ceilings enhance acoustics while integrating lighting, amplifying the dialogue between technical performance and aesthetic refinement.

Lighting and Detailing
Lighting design plays a crucial role, achieved through the collaboration with Kreon, whose minimalist fixtures complement Luc Spits’ architectural ethos. The integration of Kreon products enhances the perception of space—subtle yet precise, bringing depth and emotion to the interiors.
Behind the apparent formal simplicity, the project conceals a remarkable complexity of details. Each joint, edge, and material transition has been considered to amplify the architectural experience, making the Intersection House not only a home but also a spatial journey of perception and emotion.

A House of Balance
The Intersection House embodies the essence of contemporary Belgian architecture—a fusion of minimalism, material authenticity, and spatial liberation. It is both monolithic and transparent, intimate yet open, creating a home that transcends function to become a timeless architectural statement.
