INTERWEAVE
ADOBE OF KNOWLEDGE
1. WHAT WAS THE DESIGN APPROACH/ CONCEPT BEHIND YOUR DESIGN?
WHILE DESIGNING INTERWEAVE, WE ENVISAGED IT TO BE A PLACE TO WHICH PEOPLE GRAVITATE, BECAUSE IT IS NOT JUST A LEARNING FORUM, BUT A PLATFORM WHERE PEOPLE EXCHANGE IDEAS AND KNOWLEDGE AND WHERE PEOPLE ARE GIVEN THE FREEDOM TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES (CONFESSION ROOMS).
SPACES OF THE LIBRARY ARE DESIGNED IN SUCH A WAY THAT THEY ADAPT TO THE NEEDS OF THE USERS, WHERE THE SPACES ARE TRANSFORMED FROM LEARNING TO INFORMAL DISCUSSION AREAS TO A CULTURAL HUB WHERE THE KIDS LEARN TO PRESERVE AND CARRY FOREWARD THEIR CULTURE AND HERITAGE.
THE OTHER CAUSE WE WANTED TO EXPRESS THROUGH ‘INTERWEAVE’ WAS TO BREAK THE CULTURAL AND SOCIAL INEQUALITIES (CHILD LABOUR, WOMEN OPPRESSION) THAT STILL EXISTS IN RAJASTHAN BY PROVIDING AN EQUAL LEARNING PLATFORM (WOMEN’S WORKSHOP) BECAUSE WE BELIEVE ONLY QUALITY EDUCATION IS THE SOLUTION TO THIS.
2.WHY ‘INTERWEAVE’?
THE PROJECT IS AN AMALGAMATION OF KNOWLEDGE FROM ALL ASPECTS OF LIFE, LIKE CULTURAL, SOCIAL AND ACADEMIC FOR THE OVERALL DEVELOPMENT OF A KID TO LEAD A SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE LIFE.
3. WHAT MAKES THE DESIGN SUSTAIBABLE / ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY?
THE ENTIRE STRUCTURE OF ‘INTERWEAVE’ IS MADE OF BAMBOO AND THATCHED ROOF WHICH ARE SUSTAIBLE AND LOCALLY AVAILABLE MATERIALS.
THESE ARE UNIVERSALLY AVAILABLE, LIGHT WEIGHT AND EASY TO REPLICATE.
PASSIVE COOLING TECHNIQUE (CENTRAL COURTYARD-STACK EFFECT, RAISED ROOF-CROSS-VENTILATION, DAY LIGHTING) ARE EMPLOYED TO REDUCE THE DEPENDANCY ON MECHANICAL VENTILATION SYSTEMS.
SHADING DEVICES (VERTICAL LOUVERS) ARE USED TO PROVIDE OPTIMUM NATURAL DAY LIGHTING.
4. WHAT MAKES INTERWEAVE A MODULAR AND UNIVERSAL DESIGN?
THE FUNCTIONALITY OF SPACES ARE DESIGNED TO CATER TO ALL THE USER GROUPS. THE DESIGN IS UNIVERSAL (RAMPS, DIABLE-FRIENDLY TOILETS).
INTERWEAVE HAS A COMPACT AND MODULAR DESIGN (LIGHT WEIGHT, EASY TO CONSTRUCT MATERIALS, CLIMATE RESPONSIVE DESIGN).
THE SPACES ARE FLEXIBLE AND ADAPT TO THE CONTEXT THAT THEY ARE PLACED IT.
