JOMOO Headquarters by OMA: Redefining Modern Corporate Headquarters Architecture in Xiamen
OMA’s JOMOO Headquarters in Xiamen blends sculptural form, local craft references, and workplace innovation in a modern corporate headquarters design.
Modern Corporate Headquarters Architecture
In the bustling central business district of Xiamen, China, the JOMOO Headquarters by OMA stands as a striking example of modern corporate headquarters architecture. Designed for China’s largest sanitaryware company, the building captures the dual essence of the city — dense urban high-rises on one side, forested hills on the other — creating a powerful dialogue between nature and urban development.
A Sculptural Reinterpretation of Office Typology
Departing from the conventional podium-and-tower approach, OMA’s design takes the form of a continuous, sculptural volume inspired by the rocky terrain surrounding Xiamen. The lower section, serving as a dynamic public podium, accommodates the lobby, showroom, and a versatile multipurpose hall with conference spaces and recruitment facilities. Rising seamlessly from this base, the tower contains JOMOO’s modern office spaces, integrating corporate functions within a fluid architectural gesture.

Façade Design Inspired by Local Craft
The façade features vertical white stripes oriented in varying directions, a reference to both the traditional window tracery of local houses and JOMOO’s expertise in ceramic craftsmanship. This system not only creates a visually distinctive identity in the city’s rapidly evolving skyline but also eliminates the need for interior columns, enabling flexible, open-plan workspaces throughout the building.

Integrated Entrances and Urban Connectivity
Entrances are subtly integrated into the building’s folded façade geometry, resulting in legible and welcoming access points. The interplay between solid and void reinforces the connection between the building’s interior functions and the surrounding cityscape, while also echoing the craft-oriented yet high-tech ethos of JOMOO’s brand identity.

Balancing Tradition and Innovation
JOMOO Headquarters reflects the company’s dual commitment to craftsmanship and innovation. Informed by the culture of Xiamen, the building celebrates the city’s heritage while embracing its forward-looking ambitions. The project exemplifies how modern corporate headquarters architecture can simultaneously serve as a workplace, a public landmark, and a cultural statement.
