jtB House by BLAF Architecten: A Sustainable Family Home Blending Geometry, Energy Efficiency, and Landscape Harmony
jtB House by BLAF Architecten combines geometric design, reversible hybrid construction, and biobased insulation, creating a sustainable, energy-efficient home in Belgium.
A Hybrid Construction System for the Future
One of the most innovative aspects of the jtB House is its unique hybrid outer shell. Unlike traditional cavity walls, BLAF Architecten introduced a self-supporting brick wall on the outside combined with a light timber frame inside, filled with biobased dry lime hemp. This system eliminates the need for cavities, minimizes thermal bridges, and ensures reversible building—meaning the outer or inner shell can be dismantled independently without compromising the structure.
This groundbreaking method not only enhances thermal performance but also contributes to circular building principles, allowing the home to be both sustainable and adaptable for future generations.

Compact Geometry and Environmental Respect
The jtB House is designed as a compact, hexagonal volume with sloping sides, creating an elegant silhouette that minimizes environmental impact. This design respects the natural relief of the site while ensuring that visual connections to the landscape remain intact. The solitary geometric form sits quietly in its environment, preserving the undeveloped land while offering the family a serene and private living space.
The sloping walls increase the distance from neighboring plots, enhancing privacy, while the minimized side windows further reduce visual intrusion. At the rear, the home opens up with a striking wooden curtain wall spanning three stories, creating a sheltered patio that doubles as sun protection during hot summer months.

Integration of Light, Views, and Privacy
One of the defining features of the jtB House is its seamless integration with the landscape. Every opening in the brick façade carefully frames views of the natural surroundings, connecting residents with nature while maintaining privacy. The curtain wall design ensures that each floor enjoys panoramic views, enhancing the sense of openness and harmony with the outdoors.
Inside, natural light floods the living spaces, highlighting the balance between minimalism and functionality. The central patio not only improves airflow and sun shading but also becomes a contemplative space for relaxation and family life.

Sustainability and Modern Living
BLAF Architecten’s approach goes beyond just architecture—it’s a philosophy of sustainable living. The use of renewable materials, biobased insulation, and self-supporting brickwork reflects a forward-thinking vision of how homes can adapt to environmental and social needs without sacrificing comfort or aesthetics.
The jtB House is a model of energy-efficient housing, blending modern architectural aesthetics with sustainability and respect for the landscape. Its compact footprint, reversible design system, and natural integration make it a landmark in eco-conscious residential design.
