Love Architecture Transforms a Carpenter's Workshop into a Sensational Spice Shop with Flair
From Sawdust to Spices: How Did Love Architecture Turn a Carpenter's Workshop into a Charming Spice Shop?

The world of spices is a treasure trove of richness, opulence, and intensity. From spicy to mild, pure or mixed, made of plants and minerals, and even used as a form of payment, spices have the power to enhance, aromatize, flavor, preserve, heal, improve digestibility, and expel pests. This inspired the design of the new Van den Berg spice company building in Graz, Austria, a former carpenter's workshop situated at one of the city's Secret Places. The building is a lush mix of colors, shapes, materials, surfaces, and plants, creating a unique and exciting atmosphere.
This urban situation is both centrally located and mysterious, almost undetectable to outsiders. To reconstruct it, all valuable parts of the building were uncovered, supplemented, and renewed. The walls were painted white and the existing black bitumen floor was expanded. New structural elements were designed in loft-like white locksmith's work, creating a neutral stage design for other fittings. Smelling flasks, colored foils on the glass awning, lavishly designed "Hanging Gardens", brightly colored seating furniture, and other elements create an exotic, colorful atmosphere. In the end, a place of intense colors, smells, materials, and associations was created.
