Modern Brazilian House Design in Harmony with Nature: Pirenópolis House by Leo Romano
A modern Brazilian house design that integrates architecture with nature, creating a seamless and contemplative living experience.
A Seamless Blend of Architecture and Landscape
In the lush surroundings of the Brazilian cerrado, the Pirenópolis House by architect Leo Romano is a stunning embodiment of modern Brazilian house design. Completed in 2023, the residence merges contemporary aesthetics with the natural landscape, forming a serene and contemplative retreat. Every element of the house, from its form to its materials, celebrates the union of architecture and nature.

Grounded in the Land
The home’s entry begins with a subtle gesture—a concrete slab sheltering vehicles, merging almost invisibly into the environment. The proportional incision in this canopy welcomes the surrounding landscaping into the architectural experience. This thoughtful entry point sets the tone for the project, anchoring it firmly in its context.

As one moves through the house, a wooden walkway leads directly to the veranda and pool. These social spaces were designed as places of gathering, intended to strengthen family connections and evoke a sense of belonging. The pool extends toward a steam sauna that opens onto the forest, amplifying the sensory and emotional impact of arrival.

Concrete and Comfort in the Social Core
The ground floor of the house utilizes exposed concrete as a primary material, but its rawness is balanced by the warmth of custom wood cabinetry. This contrast not only brings texture and depth to the interiors but also redefines the potential of concrete in residential settings.

The layout emphasizes openness and integration. The strategic use of minimal pillars and full-height glass doors allows the living space to completely open to the outdoors. This blurring of boundaries transforms the TV lounge into a space that feels both enclosed and expansive, private and connected.

Furniture throughout the residence is designed with a human-centered approach, prioritizing comfort and softness in the face of architectural precision. The design encourages lounging, relaxation, and reflection—essential components of modern Brazilian house design.

Lightness Above, Flow Within
The upper floor introduces a sense of visual lightness. Large glass windows frame the views and create the sensation that the built structure is floating above the landscape. Vertical circulation links the floors seamlessly, opening onto a transitional space that connects social and private areas.

The master suite continues this dialogue between openness and intimacy. The use of a natural muxarabi—an elegant wooden lattice—adds texture and transparency while subtly dividing the closet and bathroom spaces. This traditional Brazilian design element elevates the aesthetic without sacrificing functionality.

A Terrace for Contemplation
At the top of the home, the terrace offers more than just a view—it’s a sensory garden, a space to contemplate, and an orchid-filled lookout. This elevated platform completes the residence’s story, reminding its inhabitants of their constant relationship with nature and the passage of time.

Living in Harmony
Pirenópolis House is not merely a shelter—it is a carefully composed environment where architectural discipline meets organic flow. It respects its natural setting while asserting a bold and thoughtful presence. The project reflects a growing trend in modern Brazilian house design where environmental integration, material honesty, and emotional well-being take center stage.

By blurring the lines between exterior and interior, built and grown, Leo Romano creates a timeless work that is as much about experience as it is about aesthetics.
