Reviving Kyiv’s Urban Soul Through Raw Industrial Aesthetics

In the heart of Kyiv, a striking renovation project has breathed new life into the ground floor of an early 20th-century building. Designed by Temp Project, the Storage X Domaine 17 Showroom redefines industrial showroom interior design through its unapologetically raw materials, sculptural elements, and immersive experience rooted in urban subculture. Completed in 2024 and spanning just 117 square meters, the space is a compelling fusion of gritty nostalgia and experimental retail design.

Architectural Restoration Meets Urban Expression

Architect Anastasiia Tempynska embraced the existing architectural bones of the site—arched doorways, timber ceiling beams, and unpolished brick walls—to create a setting that feels untouched by time yet vibrantly alive. The deliberate decision to leave the original brickwork raw supports the overall concept: a space that honors imperfection, history, and the chaotic energy of the city.

Three halls within the building have been transformed into distinct yet interconnected showrooms for two fashion brands—Storage for menswear and Domaine 17 for womenswear—both operated by a young couple deeply engaged in urban culture. Their vision was to evoke the atmosphere of an abandoned industrial zone reclaimed by nature and culture, and Temp Project brought that vision to life.

Storage: A Skatepark-Inspired Men’s Concept Store

The first hall, previously a beauty salon, now houses Storage. Instead of concealing the uneven radial flooring, the design team highlighted it by installing a poured concrete reception desk shaped like a skatepark ramp. The space is layered with visual cues that reinforce the brand’s narrative of exclusivity and cultural preservation.

Vault doors repurposed as displays for footwear and a steel photo zone wall reflect Storage’s emblematic theme of safekeeping rare fashion artifacts. The functionality of the showroom extends to photography and branding, with ceiling-suspended clotheslines that clear the floor space at the press of a button, adapting the room for shoots and events.

Domaine 17: Feminine Grit and Playful Contrast

The second hall transitions into the Domaine 17 showroom, balancing the raw industrial shell with playful and colorful interventions. Rounded mirror frames by Ukrainian design studio Oito, blush-pink reels, and sculptural furniture infuse femininity into the rough framework. Corrugated steel walls blur the line between utilitarian function and design expression.

A central installation of vintage TVs creates a surreal digital playground. Integrated cameras detect motion and project distorted visuals onto the screens, turning every visitor into an unwitting performer in an evolving art piece. This integration of interactivity and nostalgia strengthens the emotional engagement of the space.

Surrealism in the Fitting Room Experience

The third hall, serving as a conceptual extension, features mirrored fitting rooms that transform the act of trying on clothes into a reflective, maze-like experience. Stainless steel and mirrored surfaces amplify the sense of infinite space. The asymmetrical pink Bug table by Oito and heavy safe-inspired doors continue the themes of distortion and exclusivity.

The color scheme across all three zones remains grounded in industrial tones—shades of gray, concrete textures, stainless steel, and exposed brick—but is punctuated with organic greens and yellows. Islands of moss and ferns soften the harsh materials and create visual contrast, echoing the concept of nature slowly reclaiming industrial ruins.

Materiality and Movement as Design Language

Movement is an underlying concept throughout the showroom’s interiors. From armchairs with elongated, stretched cushions to flexible layouts and kinetic installations, the space visually pulsates with energy. This dynamic interplay between material and motion elevates the project beyond typical retail architecture, positioning it as an immersive and culturally driven experience.

Where Fashion, Architecture, and Culture Collide

The Storage X Domaine 17 Showroom stands as a powerful example of how industrial showroom interior design can transcend commerce and become a narrative-driven spatial experience. By embracing imperfection, layering interactivity, and highlighting the architectural past, Temp Project has crafted a vivid, rebellious space that speaks to the soul of Kyiv’s street culture and design innovation.
