Preserving Family Heritage
Maison Rouge stands on the family’s ancestral land, where a house once hosted countless memories but had fallen into disrepair. The redesign by TAC not only revives the house but also preserves the emotional and historical significance of the site.


Design Inspiration
The new structure is inspired by the home's original essence, with the architects using materials and elements from the old house to maintain a tangible connection to its past. This approach underscores the core principles of Sustainable Heritage Architecture.


Architectural Design and Sustainability
Use of Local and Recycled Materials
Maison Rouge is primarily constructed from red Laterite stone, indigenous to the region, emphasizing sustainability and local sourcing. The house also incorporates recycled materials from the original structure, such as wood and terracotta tiles, further reducing its environmental impact.




Natural and Cultural Integration
The layout of the house respects the existing natural elements, like the mature fruit trees, and integrates them into the design, creating a living space that blends seamlessly with its surroundings.

The house is designed with multiple open and semi-open spaces that encourage natural ventilation, crucial in the tropical climate of India. These areas also foster social interaction and relaxation, enhancing the quality of daily life.
