AIA|LA Design Awards honor 42 of Los Angeles' best new projects and architects
This is an excellent opportunity to celebrate our city's fantastic talent and creativity, and we encourage everyone to come to check out the winning designs.
New built and unbuilt projects were recognized in the Design and Next LA Awards categories at the annual AIA|LA Design Awards party in front of more than 500 at the BroadStage in Santa Monica. The projects were presented to the audience by their three-member jury and eleven-year-old aspiring architect Madison Dorsey and 2023 AIA|LA President-Elect Leslie Sydnor.
Forty-two projects were awarded in both categories at the ceremony, with the chapter's highest honour - the Gold Medal Award - being presented to Perkins&Will Principal and Director of Global Diversity Gabrielle Bullock. The theme for the awards was "Elevate Community."
“'Elevate' is the perfect word to describe what we hope to achieve in our line of work. Especially here in Los Angeles, 'elevate' is something we strive to make a reality through our efforts,' current president Mitra Memari said in her speech. "Every award given out tonight is a testament to these attempts at 'elevation,' be it through sustainable and cutting-edge design; creating housing that offers support; breathing new life into old buildings to preserve our past, or completely revolutionizing the healthcare experience for patients. We're also working hard to be agents of change when it comes to pressing social issues like equity and inclusion."
AIA's 2030 Commitment is a climate strategy that recognizes projects that comply with environmental standards. This year's Honor Award winners are shown below.
