Unveiling the Majestic Creativity of Stefano Corbo Studio: The Architectural Gentle Giant
What Makes Stefano Corbo Studio Stand Out as the Architectural Gentle Giant?

The Gentle Giant is a proposed Observation Tower for the Chinese city of Suqian. The main objectives of the competition were to: a) integrate the Tower with the existing infrastructure/bridge in the area, and b) modify the horizontal configuration of the context and skyline with an eye-catching landmark that would attract tourists and visitors.

The Gentle Giant project draws inspiration from two Chinese traditional typologies, reinterpreted with a contemporary syntax. It combines the vertical presence of Pagodas and Porcelain Towers with the adaptive geometry of the Great Wall, whose form is determined by the topography. The structure is composed of two systems of ramps: a longer, smoother one for a leisurely experience of the landscape, and a shorter, direct one for a quicker visit. At the highest point of the Tower, visitors will find a circular lounge area with stunning views of the Flower Farm.

The Gentle Giant's geometry is reminiscent of an existing bridge: a graceful, sensuous, and organic ramp that transforms into a vertical tower. Visitors are entrapped in a spiral labyrinth-like effect that guides them from the ground up to the sky. As they take a gradual and gentle stroll, they ascend this artificial mountain and reach its peak. Perception and movement become the key elements of this project. The Gentle Giant functions as a transparent skeleton, whose appearance is not static or closed off; instead, it is constantly changing and evolving, depending on the interaction with its users.

A simple Observatory Tower can be transformed into a vibrant public space, where people can come together and socialize. As vegetation gradually takes over the structure, its appearance will be altered, creating a unique atmosphere.
