Veddige House by Fabel Arkitektur – A Scandinavian Home in Harmony with Nature
Veddige House by Fabel Arkitektur floats on a hillside, blending Scandinavian design, timber construction, and nature-integrated family living.
The Veddige House, designed by Fabel Arkitektur, is located in the southern part of Sweden, perched on a hill with sweeping views to the west. Surrounded by untouched forest, the residence blends seamlessly into the natural landscape. Preserving the environment was central to the design process, ensuring minimal disturbance to the existing terrain and trees.

Architectural Design Concept
The house is conceived as a long, narrow volume, elevated on slender pillars that follow the contours of the steep hillside. This design allows the building to float above the terrain, minimizing the footprint on the land and enhancing the feeling of lightness. Entry is located on the eastern side, where the structure meets the ground.
The form was driven by functionality: accommodating a large family with four children on a single floor while creating a balance between private rooms and social spaces. Each bedroom faces treetops, while the living room opens to panoramic landscape views, reinforcing the connection between indoor and outdoor living.

Interior Organization & Social Spaces
At the heart of the home lies the kitchen, envisioned as the central gathering space for family and friends. Acting as a natural link between social and private zones, it anchors daily life.
The southern part of the house houses the main social areas, including a west-facing balcony and an inset patio. These features divide the open plan into three interconnected yet distinct living zones, encouraging fluid movement and communal interaction.
In contrast, the northern section offers private bedrooms, providing each family member with personal space while maintaining visual and spatial continuity with the surrounding nature.

Materiality & Construction
Sustainability and tradition define the material palette. The house is constructed from cross-laminated timber (CLT), with exposed wood surfaces for walls and ceilings, creating warmth and natural texture indoors.
The facade and roof are crafted entirely from wood, treated with the Linax method—a process involving copper-based impregnation and boiling in hot linseed oil under vacuum. This ensures durability while retaining the authenticity of natural wood. The wooden roof also pays homage to traditional Swedish countryside houses, echoing vernacular building methods with a modern twist.

The Veddige House exemplifies how Scandinavian architecture can merge minimalist design, sustainable construction, and deep respect for nature. Elevated on a hillside and embraced by forest, it creates a home that is both functional for family life and poetic in its dialogue with the landscape.
