Eya House: A Harmonious Blend of Contemporary Design and Nature by TARA Arquitectura
The Eya House by TARA Arquitectura merges ancestral techniques and nature-inspired design, creating a sustainable and sensory living experience.
Connecting Life, Earth, and Design
The Eya House, located in Mérida, Yucatán, is a testament to how architecture can honor ancestral wisdom and harmonize with the natural environment. Designed by TARA Arquitectura, the residence integrates nature, sustainability, and artisanal craftsmanship into a contemporary framework, creating an immersive sensory experience for its occupants.

Architectural Vision: A Contemporary Tribute to Ancestral Wisdom
Embracing Context and Environment
The Eya House is conceived as an entity preexisting within its site. TARA Arquitectura designed it to adapt to the natural surroundings rather than dominate them. By honoring the existing vegetation and landscape, the architecture promotes a profound connection between the built environment and nature.

Reinterpreting Ancestral Techniques
One of the project’s core objectives was to rescue and reinterpret traditional Yucatán building techniques. Local materials, combined with artisanal craftsmanship, were integrated into a modern architectural language. This fusion not only preserves cultural heritage but also creates a sustainable approach to construction.

The Sensory Experience: Nature as the Heart of the Home
Central Garden as a Spiritual Offering
The central garden is the heart of the Eya House, designed as an offering to Mother Nature. Key features include:
- Rainwater Pilasters: Vertical structures with vessels collect rainwater, channeling it into the garden to celebrate the water cycle.
- Connection Between Heaven and Earth: Pilasters serve as symbolic links, blending spiritual elements with architectural design.

Elements of Nature in Everyday Living
Natural light, wind, and vegetation flow freely throughout the house, creating a space that is vibrant yet calming. The architecture ensures these elements interact with every corner, enhancing the sensory experience for residents.

Sustainability and Artisanal Craftsmanship
Materials and Techniques
Eya House incorporates regional materials like stone and wood, worked by local artisans to preserve traditional methods. This approach not only reduces the ecological footprint but also enriches the cultural narrative of the design.

Climate-Responsive Design
The architecture employs passive cooling techniques, such as open layouts and natural ventilation, reducing energy consumption while maintaining comfort in Mérida’s tropical climate.

A Testament to Harmonious Living
The Eya House exemplifies how architecture can transcend its physical boundaries to become a celebration of nature, culture, and life itself. By blending ancestral knowledge with modern design, TARA Arquitectura has created a home that is both spiritually enriching and environmentally conscious.
