However, the city’s rapid growth has led to severe flooding issues, exacerbated by a complex canal system and isolated inland water bodies. These factors contribute significantly to the city's vulnerability to sea-level rise, affecting both inland and coastal communities.

The city faces recurrent monsoon floods in low-lying areas and tidal flooding due to reclamation near the old port town.
