t House by ANX / Aaron Neubert Architects – A Sustainable Architectural Statement in the Hollywood Hills
t House by Aaron Neubert Architects blends sustainable materials, stunning hillside views, and biophilic design in Los Angeles’ Hollywood Hills.
The t House, designed by ANX / Aaron Neubert Architects, is a visionary architectural project perched in the Hollywood Hills of Los Angeles, offering panoramic views of the San Fernando Valley, Griffith Park, and the iconic Hollywood Sign. Completed in 2023, this 3,882-square-foot residence redefines contemporary hillside architecture in Southern California by merging biophilic design principles, sustainable materials, and a deep respect for the natural topography.

Site-Sensitive Design and Iconic “T” Configuration
Located on a steep terrain, the t House cleverly negotiates hillside regulations to craft an inviting modern home. The structure gracefully descends from the southern slope, creating a terraced garden entryway that draws visitors toward a glass-enclosed foyer. A vertical slot window spanning three stories provides a striking visual axis aligned with Barham Boulevard, seamlessly connecting earth to sky.
This "T" shaped spatial strategy—with its vertical and horizontal gestures—anchors the home's layout. Telescoping glass doors on the northern façade open to breathtaking views, creating a fluid visual and physical transition between indoor and outdoor living spaces, including a pool terrace, garden, and entertainment areas.

Multi-Level Living with Functional Zoning
The house spans three levels:
- Upper Level: Contains bedrooms, a garage, and laundry, offering practical privacy.
- Middle Level: Hosts an open-plan kitchen, dining, living room, lounge, office, and main entry—all bathed in natural light and panoramic vistas.
- Lower Level: Features a guest suite and semi-enclosed recreation area that connects directly to the pool and landscaped garden.
A vertical void with a central stairwell and transom window visually and aurally connects the levels, enhancing the home's spatial clarity and natural ventilation.

Natural Materials and Sustainable Features
Exterior cladding combines charcoal-stained cedar and hand-pressed terracotta bricks, chosen for their aesthetic warmth and ability to age gracefully with the surrounding landscape. Inside, materials like Douglas fir beams, wide-plank oak, natural limestone, and plaster walls form a cohesive, nature-inspired palette. High-performance Fleetwood windows and Nusku fixtures add refinement and efficiency.
The t House is deeply rooted in sustainability. The architecture incorporates:
- Drought-tolerant landscaping
- Rainwater harvesting system for irrigation
- Locally sourced and minimally treated materials
These elements reflect a low-impact, high-performance approach to building in environmentally sensitive regions.

A Model for Eco-Conscious Hillside Architecture
More than a home, the t House is a prototype for future hillside developments in Los Angeles and beyond. It blends modern aesthetics, environmental responsibility, and harmonious integration with nature, offering a tranquil urban retreat that celebrates both the landscape and architecture.
