In the heart of Pagla, Narayanganj, Bangladesh, lies a mid-developing neighborhood grappling with the loss of natural ecosystems and social gathering spaces. "A Place for Community Breathing," designed by Badhan Das, offers a solution by reintroducing ecological balance and fostering human connections. This innovative project has been recognized as a shortlisted entry for the Sustainable & Regenerative Design Awards.

Restoring Balance Through Sustainable Design

Over the years, local ponds that once served as hubs for biodiversity and community interactions were replaced with concrete structures and industries. This transformation not only disrupted the area's natural equilibrium but also eliminated essential communal spaces. Poor air quality and ecological imbalance have become pressing concerns for residents, especially women and children, who lack safe areas for recreation and socializing.

The project reimagines these lost spaces by integrating sustainable architecture with locally sourced materials such as bamboo, corrugated sheets, and recycled components. Designed near existing ponds, this initiative aims to create "breathing spaces" that act as the community’s green lungs.
