A place to stay, a place to play
Children Hospice in Sacramento, California
The proposed design is Children Hospice Centre. When someone is in Hospice, he/she has limited days to stay in this world. This case applies to children too when in hospice. The best approach to take when someone is in hospice is to live the best of their lives, because there is really nothing to lose.
When coming up with the design of this project. I wanted to connect the children to the building. My concept was the Lego Stacks, Building Blocks for kids. This created so much possibilities due to their flexibility in nature. The design has a series of terraces which not only act as play areas for children but also as an architectural masterpiece, making the building to have a character of play like environment.
A series of roof gardens has also been used to create a healing environment. All roof gardens can be viewed through big windows from the children's wards.
