Reviving a Second-Floor Office Through Thoughtful Adaptive Reuse

Located at the intersection of Nguyen Van Troi and Nguyen Dinh Chinh streets, the new headquarters of AD9 Architects redefines contemporary office architecture through adaptive reuse, material efficiency, and a deep respect for natural light. Formerly a multi-renovated floor in a commercial building, the 98-square-meter second-floor space has been transformed into a collaborative, calm, and environmentally responsible studio.

Functionality Meets Minimalism

AD9’s design strategy responded to two core workspace needs: a collaborative zone for teamwork and a quiet retreat for individual work and meetings. The spatial layout is flexible, allowing the office to operate as an open-plan studio with zones of concentration and communication.

By reclaiming materials from a previous project, including purlins, sheet metal, keruing wood, and salvaged window frames, the team not only minimized construction costs but also honored their commitment to sustainable design. These materials were recontextualized as ceiling structures, partition walls, and custom furnishings, giving the space a sense of continuity and narrative.

Embracing Natural Elements

The use of bamboo blinds plays a central role in regulating natural light and ventilation, allowing employees to adjust light levels and maintain privacy. This passive shading technique fosters a sense of tranquility and warmth, reinforcing the studio’s creative atmosphere and focus-oriented mindset.

Natural daylight filters softly into the space, enhancing the textural richness of raw materials and emphasizing the minimalist approach that defines AD9’s design philosophy.
