Booking.com City Campus by UNStudio – A Next-Gen Urban Workplace in Amsterdam
A sustainable, tech-driven urban campus in Amsterdam designed by UNStudio for Booking.com, promoting well-being, flexibility, and future-focused workspaces.
Located in the heart of Amsterdam, the Booking.com City Campus designed by UNStudio in collaboration with HofmanDujardin is a benchmark in contemporary workplace design. Completed in 2023, this urban headquarters sets a new standard for sustainable, employee-centric office environments in the tech industry. Encompassing innovative architecture, interior design, and smart technologies, the project reflects Booking.com’s vision for a healthy, flexible, and globally attractive workplace.

Vision: A Global Tech Landmark
In 2015, Booking.com, in partnership with BPD (Bouwfonds Property Development), selected UNStudio to create a headquarters that would embody its leadership in travel technology and serve as a magnet for global talent. Inspired by the dynamic spirit of successful tech campuses, the design moves beyond conventional office models to establish a city-integrated, community-focused campus.

Design for Well-Being and Movement
The architecture is purposefully designed to encourage physical activity, social interaction, and mental well-being. A network of open staircases, bridges, atriums, and terraces invites employees to move freely between levels, with even emergency stairs offering light and visibility through glazed walls.

Sustainability and Smart Technology
The campus boasts BREEAM Excellent certification, integrating state-of-the-art sustainability features:
- Underfloor air distribution for localized comfort
- Radiant ceilings for efficient climate control
- Smart building management systems for seamless operations
- Acoustic optimization and abundant natural light ensure user comfort

Dynamic Interiors with “Micro-Destinations”
While UNStudio handled the urban approach and architecture, the interior masterplan was led by HofmanDujardin, with contributions from i29 and Studio Modijefsky. The interiors feature:

- 28 themed micro-destination breakout spaces modeled after holiday locations
- A mix of formal meeting rooms, informal lounges, and flexible work zones
- Communal spaces like cafés, dining areas, and wellness corners
Each space empowers employees to "design their own day," fostering both productivity and creativity.

Urban Integration & Future Flexibility
The campus is seamlessly integrated into Amsterdam’s urban landscape, creating a fluid dialogue between the city and the office environment. Its flexible layout and spatial programming reflect Booking.com's transparent culture and forward-looking values—anticipating how we will work, live, and connect in the future.
