Community-Centric Cultural Hub Design Unveiled by 11ARCHITECTURE for Foshan OWSPACE and Community Garden
11ARCHITECTURE's visionary design transforms Foshan OWSPACE, introducing 'Monsters of Wisdom' and a vibrant community-centric cultural hub."
In a groundbreaking collaboration, 11ARCHITECTURE has unveiled a visionary architectural design for Foshan OWSPACE, redefining the concept of cultural hubs with a strong focus on community integration. This transformative project introduces innovative elements, including bespoke furniture known as "Monsters of Wisdom," a terrace-style community garden, and a strategic reimagining of urban spaces. The objective is to establish a welcoming community living room, aligning with OWSPACE's progressive shift from conventional street stores to dynamic community-centric environments.
Monsters of Wisdom: Sculptural Furniture with a Purpose
At the heart of the design lies the concept of "Monsters of Wisdom," five distinctive pieces of large-scale furniture strategically placed throughout OWSPACE. These include a remarkable 7-meter-long display table for books and goods, as well as a spacious bench capable of accommodating up to 20 people simultaneously. The furniture's stubby steel legs provide an animated appearance, resembling creatures ready to embark on a journey. Referred to as "Monsters of Wisdom," these pieces add an element of playfulness and curiosity to the OWSPACE, engaging visitors with their unique design.

Terrace-Style Community Garden: A Tranquil Oasis in the Urban Landscape
The transformation of an existing outdoor ramp into a terrace-style community garden showcases 11ARCHITECTURE's commitment to maximizing minimal spaces. This carefully designed garden offers a serene walking destination, considering factors such as space size, scenic views, material textures, and lighting effects. Complete with a stage for small events and comfortable seating arrangements, the upper deck features outdoor bamboo panels, creating a perfect spot for relaxation, stargazing, or social gatherings. The surrounding greenery enhances the southern region's aesthetic, creating a harmonious blend with prefabricated cement boards.

Entrance and Interior Design: Merging Aesthetics with Functionality

The OWSPACE's main entrance, characterized by a black corrugated aluminum exterior wall, maintains consistency with the brand's image while ensuring a modern and inviting ambiance. Upon entering, visitors encounter a striking 16-meter-long bookshelf display wall, effectively dividing the space into distinct areas—cafe, community living room, and bookshelf area. Despite the modest ceiling height, a patterned perforated aluminum ceiling with integrated lighting contributes to a soft and welcoming atmosphere.

Cafe Terrace and Community Living Room: Engaging Spaces for Interaction
The OWSPACE interior features a well-thought-out arrangement, dividing the cafe into two sections—a community living room for socializing and a quieter area for reading or work. Large glass windows along the south side provide ample natural light, with green planters, seats, and a bar enhancing the overall aesthetic. The cafe seamlessly extends to a terrace area, offering patrons a green oasis with a large eave for shade, creating an ideal setting to enjoy panoramic views of Midea's twin towers.

Atrium and Ground Floor Event Space: Architectural Highlights for Interaction and Engagement
The interior's deepest section boasts an atrium connecting the first and second floors, featuring sculptural stairs and a literary map titled "SOUTHERN MAP." This unique design collaboration with the OWSPACE team aims to convey an immersive literary experience, inviting patrons to explore the world "between the lines." The ground floor, designated as an event space, exhibits flexibility with movable exhibition stands and the capacity to transform into a lecture hall accommodating up to 100 people.

Elevating Cultural Hubs through Innovative Design
In essence, 11ARCHITECTURE's transformative design for Foshan OWSPACE and Community Garden represents a paradigm shift in cultural hub architecture. By prioritizing community-centric spaces, integrating unique elements like the "Monsters of Wisdom," and repurposing urban areas into inviting gardens, this project redefines the traditional concept of cultural engagement. The result is a dynamic, welcoming environment that aligns seamlessly with OWSPACE's evolution and sets a new standard for community-driven cultural hubs in urban settings.
