In 2023, Gu Wu Xuan Bookstore took on the task of revitalizing this century-old mansion into a bookstore and museum, entrusting Tsing-Tien Making with the renovation. The result is a captivating cultural space that seamlessly merges traditional and contemporary elements.

Preservation Challenges and Design Vision

Before Tsing-Tien Making embarked on the project, the residence underwent comprehensive conservation and reinforcement. The renovation faced challenges due to stringent government restrictions, original layout limitations, and the need for improved natural daylighting. However, the design vision aimed not only to address these challenges but also to elevate the overall functionality of Zhang Garden. The goal was to create a space that harmoniously combines books, traditional culture, and the study of Chinese classics.
