The Eya House, located in Mérida, Yucatán, is a testament to how architecture can honor ancestral wisdom and harmonize with the natural environment. The Eya House is conceived as an entity preexisting within its site. TARA Arquitectura designed it to adapt to the natural surroundings rather than dominate them. By honoring the existing vegetation and landscape, the architecture promotes a profound connection between the built environment and nature.

Reinterpreting Ancestral Techniques

One of the project’s core objectives was to rescue and reinterpret traditional Yucatán building techniques. Local materials, combined with artisanal craftsmanship, were integrated into a modern architectural language. This fusion not only preserves cultural heritage but also creates a sustainable approach to construction.

Central Garden as a Spiritual Offering

The central garden is the heart of the Eya House, designed as an offering to Mother Nature. Key features include:

• Rainwater Pilasters: Vertical structures with vessels collect rainwater, channeling it into the garden to celebrate the water cycle.
• Connection Between Heaven and Earth: Pilasters serve as symbolic links, blending spiritual elements with architectural design.
