Fit Apartment by CoDA Arquitetura: A Spacious and Flexible Urban Retreat
Fit Apartment by CoDA Arquitetura transforms a 60m² space with an open-plan layout, flexible storage, and vibrant, personalized design elements.
Reimagining Compact Living with an Open-Concept Design
Located in Brasília, Brazil, the Fit Apartment by CoDA Arquitetura is a bold renovation that challenges conventional small-space design. Originally a compartmentalized 60-square-meter apartment, the project embraces an open-plan layout, maximizing natural light, functionality, and flexibility. By eliminating all walls except for the bathroom, the architects created a seamlessly integrated living space, merging the kitchen, social areas, workspace, and bedroom into a fluid and dynamic environment.

A Response to New Living Needs
The COVID-19 pandemic reshaped how people interact with their homes, and the apartment owners wanted a design that could accommodate multiple functions within a compact footprint. One key requirement was to integrate a dedicated workout space without compromising the apartment’s aesthetics. This led to innovative storage solutions, including built-in compartments for exercise equipment and a transformable sleeping area that optimizes space usage.

Materiality and Color Palette: A Personalized Aesthetic
During demolition, the concrete slab ceiling was exposed, adding an industrial touch to the design. The apartment’s color and texture scheme was inspired by a cherished painting gifted to the owner by her aunt, prominently displayed above the dining table. The use of pink hydraulic tiles and soft blue accents complements the artwork, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere. Pastel tones enhance the sense of spaciousness, blending modern aesthetics with personal elements.

Maximizing Functionality in a Small Space
To maintain a sense of openness, the exposed beams serve as visual markers of where original walls once stood. The bathroom, the only enclosed space, acts as a central core around which the kitchen, laundry, and living areas are arranged, allowing unrestricted circulation.
The sleeping area is designed with maximum flexibility in mind. The couple’s bed can be retracted into a custom-built wardrobe, instantly transforming the room into a workout or workspace. Floor-to-ceiling exercise bars further emphasize the adaptability of the apartment. Meanwhile, custom cabinetry extends along the walls, creating a cohesive rhythm that integrates the workspace and adjustable-height bench, catering to different daily activities.

Small Yet Spacious: A New Standard for Urban Living
The Fit Apartment demonstrates how smart design can turn a small apartment into a multi-functional and visually spacious home. With an emphasis on versatility, storage innovation, and aesthetic harmony, CoDA Arquitetura redefines urban compact living without compromising on comfort or style.
