Located on the edge of Bratislava’s historic Old Town, Flat 29A is a refined example of contemporary apartment renovation set within a 1920s rondokubist building designed by Klement Šilinger. Led by architect Martin Skoček, this project reinterprets the original space while preserving its historical essence, resulting in a seamless fusion of old and new.

Preserving Structural Heritage with a Modern Approach

The apartment’s two-track construction is a distinctive feature, incorporating a wooden ceiling structure alongside a reinforced concrete ribbed ceiling. Rather than concealing these architectural elements, the renovation highlights them, emphasizing their role in shaping the spatial experience.

By reconfiguring the layout, the design opens up the once-segmented rooms, creating long sightlines that enhance natural light and spatial fluidity. Structural openings in the central load-bearing wall align with the original façade windows, maintaining a sense of architectural rhythm while strengthening the dialogue between old and new.

A Thoughtful Composition of Materials and Light

The interior design remains minimal yet warm, with an emphasis on natural materials that complement the apartment’s historic character. Large windows invite ample daylight, illuminating the carefully curated selection of furniture and fixtures.
