Located in the heart of Morelia, Mexico, GEA Offices by JAA Arquitectos exemplifies contemporary workspace design that merges functionality, sustainability, and aesthetic warmth. Built atop a commercial space featuring a central structural pillar, the office layout was carefully developed using a cross-shaped modulation, efficiently creating four distinct areas tailored to the client’s needs.

The interior divisions are defined by low, thick walls constructed from steel structures and clad in rectangular fired clay tiles, offering both structural stability and a tactile, natural texture. These walls cleverly incorporate built-in bookshelves and storage spaces, maximizing utility while maintaining clean lines. To ensure natural light permeates all corners, clear glass panels crown the walls, allowing sunlight from exterior windows to reach private workspaces seamlessly.

The offices and conference room feature wooden frames and textured glass partitions, balancing privacy with transparency, while the entrance hall greets visitors with a wall of petrified roots stone, reflecting GEA’s core values and environmental commitment.

Materiality plays a central role in the design. Terracotta tiles create a warm and inviting atmosphere, with a 2.10m high strip that enhances spatial perception within the compact layout. Complementing the terracotta, American oak wood enriches the palette, reinforcing a natural, comfortable ambiance.

Custom-designed furniture, commissioned by the client, integrates effortlessly with each space, fulfilling functional requirements while preserving aesthetic harmony. Indirect lighting, embedded within the clay-tiled walls, enhances the office environment with soft illumination. Hanging lamps crafted from iron frames wrapped in jute thread add subtle artisanal touches.

Extending the design philosophy to the commercial frontage, a monolithic coffee bar clad in cut gray marble serves visitors of the plaza, maintaining visual cohesion with the office interior.

With a total area of 140 m², completed in 2022, GEA Offices represents a thoughtful balance of modern office functionality, sustainable materials, and innovative spatial design.
