This project is located in Changhua, Taiwan, where the growing service and manufacturing industries have attracted a large number of workers. Our on-site investigation shows that the area is close to the commercial district, and has a high population density, but lacks sufficient public space and greenery.

Our team aims to increase green coverage and create more open spaces that promote community interaction. We will achieve this goal by incorporating elements of local cultural traditions into the design using exposed aggregate concrete. Our objective is to develop a semi-public area that encourages tenant interaction while addressing the shortage of public space in the urban landscape.

We hope to fully consider land use in the design of this site, so we have used the simplest form of a small box to design it. In the process, we found that the surrounding buildings were independent and lacked greenery and public space. Therefore, we hope to integrate some of the space into the community, improving the social attributes of residents. We will design a semi-open space in the form of a lawn to enhance communication among residents and have all entrance doors facing inward to improve privacy and promote communication among tenants.

Secondly, our team found that the site is located at the intersection of multiple roads, resulting in serious air pollution and noise issues. To alleviate these problems, we will plant trees at both ends of the site and design green walls near the road to absorb carbon dioxide and purify the air. Additionally, we will plant trees on the sidewalk to increase greenery, protect pedestrian safety, and provide a more comfortable, safe, and livable environment.

Our design not only overcomes the harsh conditions and extreme rationality of the existing site environment but also creates a comfortable, safe, and socially attractive public space that meets the competition requirements. We hope to give the building more functions to promote social contact among urban residents and improve human well-being.

Our team initially aimed to design a social space that balances cost-effectiveness, efficiency, and privacy, and we hope to build it with minimal resources. To achieve this goal, first, we can save time and money during the design and construction process by using uniform door and window sizes and improving design efficiency while maintaining consistency. Second, we need to balance the need for sufficient privacy and basic interaction. The exterior facade is made of exposed aggregate concrete panels, which are simple and quick to complete. Third, affordable buildings should be considered, taking into account design, materials, labor, and maintenance, avoiding complex building structures, and choosing economical materials, which can reduce costs while maintaining quality.

Based on the characteristics and goals mentioned above, we have named this project "Green Valley Community", which signifies that the area will become a green social space, providing people with a comfortable and sustainable living environment, and also serving as a link for social connections among urban residents.
