HERMIT HEARTH : When we begin to move
A hermit crab like mobile architecture. Not only wheels but also rail.
My name is Brook Thadtham Semaeakarat. I'm from Thailand. I'm a 4th year student at faculty of Architecture, Chulalongkorn University.
Today I'm gonna tell you about my jouney to my project, HERMIT HEARTH.
but for us as an architect. Images Speak Louder Than Words. So ...
I'm not a native speaker so my English is not good. I'm sorry for that but it's not an excuse. I'm willing to get better and better at English and also Architectural design so please pray for me HAHAHA.
My truely intention is to create mobile architecture which work in the longrun. Not only sufficiently advanced technology design but also design that care about human within it.
I trade off some high-tect (which is very cool!) to make more room for these 4 people. I wish them can live in a house like this long enough to find better habitat to sattle. Espicially the two child, I'm very concern for them being child trapped in a ethernally long journey isn't easy for them. How can they growth perfectly? What about personal space? Is it effect in the way child psychologist may concerns? ETC
So that the way this design came across.
● What was the concept behind the project?
Before I start a design process, I found this amazing video about hermit crab and its friend. So the concept is Symbiosis which mean interaction between two different organisms living in close physical association, typically to the advantage of both. I choose to have a tree plot on the roof of the house because I think for crab the anemonies is best freind but for we human it is Plant!
In addition, the crab have a shell that can be wore or not wore so I adapt it to a framed roof which can be used and not use, I give it a slide rail so it can easily slide thoroughly the house and also can distinguised from the house in case of settling down.
● How many iterations were tried to arrive at the final outcome?
About 3 schemes and 30 detail adjust
● Which methods of design investigation?
● What/How were the materials chosen?
I think about something sandwich like aluminium and foam composite which is very thin but strong! maybe aluminium sheet composite with recycled insulator (because I don't think that Foam will fits the environmental situation we all facing in the competition's world)
● How will the project transform with the passing time? etc.
In one of my scheme, Not only diffrent but also feel like another project! From not a train at all (like a car or boat ETC) to finally a tiny train the move across the world, I think it's a huge transformation in this project.
Thank you for your attention,
Brook
PS, I almost giveup this competition because of the deadline is very short and I think I can't do this so I giveup on it already. But I barely clear this out of my mind!!! I think this competition is a very cool competition with powerful concept (I LOVE DYSTOPIA).
Then when I seen that the entry date is postponed I am SO relieved! I can do this so it can get out of my head!!!
In that time the deadline of submission is next day evening (in Thailand) so I have about 30 hrs to magically make it happens which I think I can.
BUT I CAN NOT !!!!!
Thanks to the deadline postponed for 1 day so I have more 24 hrs to make this happens and then ... you see what you see. There are my products. May or may not get any reward but I finally can get this house out of my head!!!! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.
There are my work - HERMIT HEARTH
Please roots for it!! if you may.
