In Praise of Shadows
Safe Place
The sky is cloudy. I look over my head and think to myself, "Where is my refuge?" I look at the alley, see the narrow and endless path in front of me, and start this adventure involuntarily. The passage is surrounded by trees and not very quiet walls and does not give me a chance to look around. In this cloudy weather, where sometimes the not-so-bright rays of light have the opportunity to shine, the alley gives me a sad atmosphere, but I have no choice to continue on my way.
I continue in the middle of the way, and I see a house in the distance that is not like other houses. It has no walls and is not a prisoner behind metal fences. This house seems to want to have a dialogue with me.
The bamboo sticks have changed direction as part of the passage and invite me into their enigmatic space. The house is hidden among the trees and plants and does not want to show itself, but it has given me a path to enter the house and recognize and touch it. Almost everything is in front of my eyes from the outside, but because it is in the dark and immersed in nature, it is not clear to me what I am facing, so I have no choice but to go up the stairs and myself. To drown in the space of the house.
The first space is a tiny simple platform surrounded on one side by a mass of small and large plants, a space for pause and procrastination. I can sit on this platform and enjoy the natural environment around me. I go up a few steps and reach the half-open corridor of the house, a space protected by bamboo sticks. The corridor is the border between the outside and inside the house. When I stand in the hallway, I can not tell if I am inside or outside. It is a perpetual riddle.
The first space inside the house is the kitchen. A space where the wall facing the yard is all over the glass, while such transparency can not be found in other partitions. It is clear that this space is influenced by the yard and is connected to it and the corridor. Also, with a few windows on the side of the alley, this space is ready to talk to passers-by inside the passage. This kitchen is the heart of the house, which monitors and influences every movement between outside and inside the house. As I walk down the hallway, I reach a small space between the kitchen and the TV room. I see a tall tree emerge and announce its presence. As I continue along the stairs, I reach the TV room. This space is surrounded by plant and decorative elements and by colors around. In this space, not only can you watch TV, but I can also sit alone and be impressed by the small atmosphere around me. This atmosphere is truly inspiring.
I continue on my way in the corridor; the number of stairs in front of me is so much that it seems as if they want to take me to another space. I go up the stairs. From this top, the garden and the yard have different effects. I enter the living room space. The area is simply arranged. The two front windows are in front of the dark space at the end of the room. It is as if the room is divided into light and dark, outside and inside, extraversion and introversion, movement and stillness, clear and vague. This is where the value of darkness and shadows comes into play. The same contradictions and dialogues occur in the house's master bedroom. It can be understood that in this house, while sleeping, we are supposed to close our eyes to all the restlessness and unrest and sink into the safe and soothing darkness of the room.
Finally, I reach the semi-open living space. This space is suspended between heaven and earth by its glass floor, and in this space, nothing is hidden from view. At the highest level of the house, I can go all the way from the beginning and look at this safe space from a different angle.
This was my adventurous trip to Bio-Home.
