Inner Centre
a space for creativity and inner peace
The site is located in the small town of Pleasington in England. The task is to plan an art therapy centre that can be used for day stays as well as for longer stays.
The goal is for the people who stay here to gain a distance from everyday life and find their inner centre This is taken up in the concept in that the round cubature closes to the outside and opens completely to the inside. Only the public area also opens to the outside and thus invites visitors into the centre.
Circularly, the building evolves from public to private, which is expressed in spaces through an exhibition area and café, a music hall, a workshop space, a yoga and meditation space, and finally the accommodations.
Between the parts of the building there are joints that spatially separate the three areas Public, Creative and Calm and provide retreats with connection to the surrounding nature.
For the outer facade, a yellow natural stone typical of the village was used, which stands for the hard shell that shields itself from the outside. Towards the interior, the materials become softer with a large-scale wooden post and beam facade and exposed concrete with vertical board structure. The design follows the radial movement of the building at every point and always guides visitors to the(ir) inner centre.
