Ismael Oria Clinic by mar macías atelier: Harmonizing Architecture, Light, and Care in Huelva
A white, sculptural dental clinic in Huelva, blending natural materials, curved forms, light, and welcoming, human-centered architecture.
Located in the heart of Huelva, Spain, the Ismael Oria Clinic by mar macías atelier redefines dental clinic architecture by combining functionality, aesthetics, and human-centered design. Spanning 355 m², this contemporary clinic delivers a welcoming environment for patients and staff, embodying innovation, warmth, and spatial fluidity.

A Vision Realized: From Concept to Design
The project began with the clear vision of Ismael and Cristina, who sought to create a space that would elevate the patient experience while providing a nurturing environment for their team. From early meetings, discussions revolved around adapting the irregular corner plot and crafting a building that resonates both at the pedestrian scale and for passing vehicles along one of Huelva's busiest arteries. The goal was simple yet profound: to offer a unique and welcoming space.

Contextual Design on a Unique Corner Plot
The clinic occupies a corner plot with two prominent facades. mar macías atelier responded with a design that celebrates both urban visibility and intimate experience. The building is structured with a reticular reinforced concrete frame, closed towards neighboring properties for privacy, and opened to the exterior with slender metal pillars that seamlessly integrate into the architectural language.
The clinic's exterior is marked by pure white walls and clean lines, a deliberate contrast to its surroundings yet rooted in Huelva's vernacular architecture of whitewashed simplicity. The main entrance stands out as a sculptural gesture, welcoming visitors while maintaining harmony with the building’s form when closed.

Light, Materiality, and Spatial Continuity
Natural light is a key design element, brought into the interior through expansive windows on both facades and circular skylights that punctuate the roof. In offices where direct zenithal light is not required, the skylights are simulated using innovative ceiling modeling, ensuring a consistent and comforting light quality throughout the clinic.
Materials are chosen to evoke local craftsmanship and natural beauty, combining stone, wood, and tactile finishes to create a continuity of space. The curved central void organizes circulation, drawing visitors inward and providing a sculptural, organic heart to the clinic.

Interior Design: Circulation and Comfort
The clinic’s program is efficiently arranged across two floors. The ground floor houses public functions including the reception, waiting area, meeting room, administrative offices, and restroom facilities. The first floor accommodates the core medical functions: six consultation offices, x-ray and recovery rooms, changing areas, and staff offices.
A standout feature is the curved stone staircase, paired with a stone parapet, guiding patients naturally toward consultation areas while becoming a centerpiece of the interior design. Furniture, lighting, and finishes are carefully selected to enhance comfort, calm, and spatial clarity, ensuring every visit feels professional yet welcoming.

A Harmonious Statement in the Urban Fabric
Ismael Oria Clinic is a study in balance: between solid and open, intimate and public, modern and vernacular. The interplay of light, organic forms, and materiality establishes a quiet elegance, inviting contemplation and offering a reprieve from the urban hustle outside. The clinic’s design transforms the experience of dental care into a holistic journey of calm, beauty, and thoughtful architecture.

Conclusion: A Model of Human-Centered Healthcare Architecture
By blending functionality, local architectural references, and contemporary design, mar macías atelier has created a dental clinic that is both practical and poetic. The Ismael Oria Clinic exemplifies how healthcare spaces can transcend utilitarian expectations, offering a sanctuary that delights patients and inspires staff.
