Jetvan Extension by Design Work Group | Surat, India | 2025
Jetvan Extension in Surat blends multi-generational living with nature, featuring courtyards, lotus pond, raw materials, open spaces, and serene landscape integration.
The Jetvan Extension by Design Work Group is an elegant expansion of an existing residence, crafted to accommodate a growing joint family while maintaining a harmonious connection with the original home. Situated on an elongated plot in Surat, India, the project integrates contemporary design, thoughtful landscaping, and a functional spatial layout over 3125 m², creating a serene and cohesive environment for family living.

As the project evolved, an adjacent land parcel was acquired, allowing the inclusion of a clubhouse, play area, gaushala, farmland, and home office, all masterplanned gradually to form a unified estate. The entrance pathway employs a “contracting and expanding” spatial sequence, guiding visitors from a narrow approach into a tranquil courtyard, inviting a mindful transition from the exterior to the heart of the home.

Nature plays a key role in the design. Sounds of birds and bees, combined with lush foliage and tactile stone surfaces, create a sensory experience that welcomes residents and guests alike. The front courtyard embraces minimalism with open spaces, two trees, and a lotus pond, while tall rain trees provide structural rhythm, emphasizing a clean yet powerful interaction with nature.

The two-story residence accommodates 10 bedrooms, a TV room, dining area, living room, kitchen, courtyard, and playroom, designed for a large, multi-generational family. A rough stone-clad wall acts as both a visual and functional divider, separating public zones from private spaces. Bathrooms feature seamless IPS (Indian Patent Stone) floors and walls, enhancing durability and maintaining a clean, minimal aesthetic. Interior spaces highlight raw materials, including exposed brick, concrete ceilings, and terrazzo flooring, fostering warmth, openness, and a timeless connection to the surrounding landscape.

The landscape design enhances tranquility and openness, showcasing native trees and a large lotus pond as the focal point for relaxation and reflection. A swimming pool integrates seamlessly, creating a continuous dialogue between water, greenery, and outdoor living. Together, architecture and landscape cultivate a harmonious, restorative environment where family members can unwind, connect with nature, and enjoy serene moments within a carefully crafted estate.
