A Clubhouse in Harmony with Nature
La Pedrera Clubhouse, designed by Taller Ezequiel Aguilar Martínez, is a stunning architectural project located on the outskirts of Atlixco, Puebla, Mexico. Nestled within the Tentzo mountain range, this circular structure integrates seamlessly with its natural surroundings, offering panoramic views of golf courses, valleys, and the iconic Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl volcanoes.




Site and Context
A Privileged Setting in Atlixco
Situated on a hill within the Cola de Lagarto development, the clubhouse enjoys a unique position that blends semi-desert vegetation with breathtaking vistas. The site's natural elements, including acacias, yuccas, and wild grasses, set the stage for an architectural design that prioritizes context-sensitive planning.


Connection to the Tentzo Landscape
The Tentzo mountain range inspired the project’s layout. By responding to the topography and natural contours, La Pedrera harmonizes with its environment while maximizing its visual and functional relationship with the landscape.



Architectural Concept
Circular Layout and Concentric Skins
At the heart of La Pedrera’s design is its circular plan, divided into three concentric rings:
- Outer Ring: Constructed from locally sourced stone, this element anchors the structure and serves as the first tactile connection for users.
- Middle Ring: Featuring a glazed facade, this area connects indoor spaces with the landscape, optimizing natural light and offering dynamic views.
- Inner Ring: Defined by movable wooden doors, this adaptable space allows seamless transitions between open and closed configurations.



Central Reflecting Pool and Oculus
A reflecting pool forms the central focus of the design, framed by an oculus in the concrete slab above. This feature blends landscape and architecture, drawing light into the core and emphasizing the clubhouse's relationship with its surroundings.


Program and Functionality
Ground and Underground Levels
The architectural program is primarily distributed across two levels:
- Ground Floor: Houses key clubhouse facilities such as a restaurant, leisure rooms, and service areas.
- Underground Level: Leverages the natural slope of the hill, ensuring minimal visual impact while enhancing functional efficiency.


Viewing Deck
The roof slab doubles as a 360-degree viewing platform, offering a space for events and breathtaking panoramas of the Tentzo mountain range and beyond.


Materiality and Sustainability
Locally Sourced Materials
Key materials, including regional stone, exposed concrete, and temperate plaster, reflect a commitment to blending the building into its environment. These choices ensure that La Pedrera will age gracefully, further integrating with the landscape over time.
