Lake House by mf+arquitetos: Elegant Modern Living Amid Nature
Lake House by mf+arquitetos in Brazil blends concrete, wood, and stone, integrating nature seamlessly with modern lakefront living.
Nestled on the serene shores of a lake in Uberlândia, Brazil, the Lake House by mf+arquitetos is a striking example of contemporary architecture that harmoniously blends raw concrete, natural stone, and warm wood. Completed in 2022, this 557 m² residence transforms a bold, 36.5-meter linear concrete block into a refined architectural statement that embraces both elegance and functionality.

Upon arrival, visitors are immediately greeted by a pool that appears to float at the lake’s edge, creating a subtle sensation of weightlessness. This design choice softens the concrete block’s raw intensity, achieving a delicate balance between human scale and monumental presence. With a ceiling height of 2.60 meters, the structure frames its surroundings, inviting nature into the experience.

Architectural Layout and Spatial Design
The entrance is thoughtfully positioned on the opposite side of the lake view, revealing two stone-clad volumes that nestle within the concrete block. These volumes serve distinct functions: one houses two suites, including a master suite with a private garden, while the other contains the garage, laundry room, toilet, wine cellar, and kitchen. Between these stone structures, a reflective pool with an elegant walkway guides guests into the home, seamlessly connecting indoor and outdoor spaces.

Crossing the walkway, expansive glass doors open fully, allowing the main living area to flow effortlessly toward the reflecting pool and the lake beyond. This open design ensures that the surrounding landscape is integrated into daily life, offering uninterrupted visual and sensory connections with nature.

Interior Materials and Atmosphere
The interiors feature a sophisticated yet welcoming material palette. Stone floors and walls, concrete ceilings, and wooden panels create a harmonious foundation. This refined backdrop contrasts beautifully with furniture textures like leather and linen, adding depth and comfort. Natural light permeates the interiors through rope brises, which serve the dual purpose of sun protection and privacy while enhancing the facade’s dynamism.

Throughout the home, pure, clean lines and authentic materials reinforce a sense of connection with the environment. The juxtaposition of the concrete block’s brutalist character with soft, natural finishes allows the tactile and visual sensations of the space to be fully appreciated. Every element of the design emphasizes a direct relationship with nature, creating a calm, immersive residential experience.

A Harmonious Blend of Brutality and Softness
Lake House exemplifies the fusion of architectural strength and serene elegance. Its raw concrete exterior conveys a sense of permanence, while its thoughtful incorporation of natural materials, water features, and greenery introduces softness and warmth. The result is a modern retreat where the built environment and landscape coexist seamlessly, offering residents a refined, contemplative connection to nature.
