Located in Vadodara, Gujarat, Madhuvilla – The Concrete House by K.N. Associates is a striking example of contemporary residential architecture that redefines the possibilities of exposed concrete design. Spanning over 20,000 square feet, this monolithic villa seamlessly combines brutalist aesthetics with a sense of calmness, openness, and connection to nature.

Architectural Vision

Designed by lead architects Narendra Joshi and Pritesh Patel, the project celebrates the raw beauty of exposed RCC (reinforced cement concrete). The villa is conceived as a fluid architectural form, where raw materials like concrete, steel, and glass come together to create a timeless expression of strength and elegance. The exterior is characterized by high ceilings, patterned concrete walls, and landscaped gardens, establishing a balance between brutalism and modern luxury.

Landscape & Natural Integration

The residence is built on a raised plinth—a thoughtful design response to its flood-prone location—which also enhances privacy. Expansive glass fenestrations frame continuous views of gardens and green landscapes, blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces. Subtle landscape elements curated by Outline Studios enrich the interior environment, offering residents a sense of stillness and tranquility.

Interior Design & Layout

The interiors reflect a refined composition of unfinished textures, natural light, and open volumes. The villa incorporates large living areas with uninterrupted garden views, complemented by a zoning layout that ensures every vantage point connects to greenery. A post-tension structural system eliminates the need for columns over wide spans, allowing for more fluid spatial experiences.

The Iconic Staircase

One of the most distinctive design highlights is the circular RCC staircase—a structural and visual centerpiece of the home. Constructed as a single exposed concrete flight without external support, it embodies architectural innovation. The staircase is paired with green Kota stone flooring, multi-colored patterns, and a custom skylight chandelier by Kaanch – Hemanshi Patwa Shah, enhancing its sculptural presence. A delicate metal screen provides privacy while maintaining openness, adding depth to the interior design narrative.

Artistic & Cultural Detailing

The entrance to the villa is marked by a pergola in open-grid design, leading visitors through a landscaped pathway. Distinctive circular cutouts with murals by Avinash Gondaliya further accentuate the villa’s cultural richness. Every detail, from material choices to lighting, is curated to evoke a sense of architectural artistry and exclusivity.

Madhuvilla – The Concrete House is not just a residence; it is a landmark in Indian modernist architecture, setting new benchmarks for luxury concrete homes. By merging raw brutalism with refined detailing, the project exemplifies how contemporary concrete architecture can be both functional and poetic.
