Museum of sustainable fashion
The main idea
The museum is located in the Barcelona quarter and is inspired by the culture of Spain. It is designed to become a new place of attraction for the formation of a conscious community who appreciates beauty, sustainable development and strives to be better.
During the search of ideas, I set myself such tasks as combining environmental, social, educational and fashion components. I put my attention to the shape of the site, so the first solution was to create a new, independent quarter in the rhythm of the current quarters along the perimeter where could be space looking like urban present for the citizens. The second step was research of the ways of the producing clothes, so I found a lot of information about producing of materials, cycles of industrial production, different ways of recycling and reducing environment footprint in fashion. Within sustainable fashion, there is a slow fashion movement and can be characterized by both a brand's business model and the slow consumption of fashion products.
Fashion brands need the use of eco-friendly fabrics, ethical and transparent production, investment of profits in environmental initiatives, economic development the region in which the production is located. Also for millennials, money is not the deciding factor when choosing a profession. They strive to make the world a better place by working in companies, taking care of environment. Fast fashion reduces the cost of wage clothing and the quality of working conditions for workers.
Therefore, local Spanish brands could become official partners of the museum, which would allow it to be popularized, and companies could get customers loyalty.
Also I found very interesting information about digital fashion that use bloggers and influencers and collaborations of brands with video games. Such kind of clothes is rather various and provides more interesting experiments vith style, also this charasteristic is useful for people in social media who buy clothes and then return them after taking a photo of their look. So my project includes digital art space at the exhibition space.
After it I thought about urban function of open space and how I can implement open part for people. Then it was decided to use the open area as a zone for walking, recreation, shopping and create an open gallery and podium where could be hold a fashion show.
The concept of the building was inspired by the theater of Tarragona, then I implemented differently sized arches and fashion theater was created. The color of the main gallery was dictated by energy of red, as red corresponds to such traditional associations associated with Spain, as "fiery passion", "romantic land", holiday, bullfighting, flamenco. In the creation of the image of Spain, color actively participates as a way of cognition and comprehension of the picture of the world, fixes unique information about the surrounding nature, originality the historical path of the people, its ethnic traditions, peculiarities artistic vision.
I wanted to create place, where miracles take part, so the main building is under ground and we have to go downstairs to see all the aesthetic by ourselves.
My project is a museum without a museum, that provides the minimum carbon footprint during construction, the ability to use solar panels on the roof, collect, filter rain water and the educational function inside the museum increases the effect.
The final architectural solution is determined by the fact that the project displays the emotional component of fashion, its outrageousness, theatricality, but at the same time it is an urban space open to everybody, inviting to get acquainted with the current topic and get an aesthetic experience.
The choice of materials in the project is dictated by environmental friendliness in production, strength, beautiful aging, durability and aesthetic characteristics, so the main gallery with arches is made of red Jurassic marble.
The future of the project can be various and interesting, as space can be adapted by the needs of today. I think that beautiful form is a kind of promising of the future, so this museum would be contemperorary with different generations. This project provides the idea of careful use, rethinking, optimal application, surrounding yourself with a beautiful world and be responsible for our future.
