One Hundred is a striking new addition to the skyline of St. Louis, Missouri, designed by the acclaimed Chicago-based architecture firm Studio Gang. Completed in 2020, this 520,000-square-foot residential tower rises more than 380 feet above the city, offering panoramic views of both Forest Park to the west and the iconic Gateway Arch to the east. As Studio Gang’s first built project in St. Louis, One Hundred is a bold statement of architectural innovation, sustainability, and urban connectivity.

A Tiered Architectural Landmark

The tower’s most distinctive feature is its tiered massing, composed of stacked four-story modules that shift in plan as they rise. This unique form creates generous outdoor terraces for nearly 25% of the units, blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor living. Each tier is carefully angled, optimizing light, air, and views while forming communal green rooftop spaces that foster interaction among residents. These sky terraces also serve as extensions of the indoor amenity areas, enhancing community engagement and providing visual relief within the urban fabric.

Sustainable Design Meets Sculptural Form

Studio Gang’s design leverages the leaf-like shape of the building’s plan to respond strategically to site orientation and environmental conditions. This biomorphic geometry helps reduce solar heat gain, increase natural ventilation, and lower the building's overall energy load, all while offering maximum occupant comfort. The angled façade panels and floor plates are not merely aesthetic but also integral to the tower’s environmental performance.

Integration of Materials and Systems

The project features a carefully curated palette of materials, including Terroxy Resin Systems terrazzo flooring supplied by Terrazzo & Marble, providing both durability and elegance. The façade, designed in collaboration with Lorin Industries, reflects light subtly across its aluminum surfaces. Engineering excellence is ensured through collaborations with Magnusson Klemencic Associates (structural), dbHMS (MEP), and Arbolope Studio (landscape), among others. Additional consultants such as MorLights (lighting) and Jenkins & Huntington (vertical transportation systems) contributed to the tower’s cohesive performance and user experience.

Community-Focused Vertical Living

Designed not just as a structure but as a vertical neighborhood, One Hundred incorporates ground-level retail, ample parking, and a suite of resident amenities. The project reimagines what high-rise living can be by incorporating nature, promoting social interaction, and maintaining strong visual and physical connections to the surrounding urban and natural environments.
