The Outpost Offices, designed by LOOP Design Studio in Nosara, Costa Rica, redefine the concept of modern workspaces by blending sustainability, biophilic design, and community-driven spaces. Completed in 2021, this 10,646 ft² project offers a refreshing take on office environments, seamlessly integrating private areas, collaborative coworking spaces, and natural surroundings. Located just steps away from Playa Guiones—famous for its surfing culture and sunsets—Outpost promotes well-being, ecological responsibility, and professional productivity.

Architecture Inspired by Nature and Local Traditions

The design of Outpost draws inspiration from traditional coastal architecture, reinterpreted into a contemporary, tropical form. Using earthy tones, organic materials, and a naturally coastal aesthetic, the building harmonizes with Nosara’s lush environment. LOOP Design Studio implemented passive design strategies, ensuring that the building interacts with its context through natural ventilation, solar control, and connection to outdoor landscapes.

The architecture is structured into vertical layers that organize the program into public, semi-private, and private areas. This arrangement supports fluid interactions, ranging from open community spaces for informal meetings and social exchange to quiet, enclosed offices for focused work. Each space offers a balance between functionality and immersion in nature, creating an ideal tropical workplace.

A Balance of Work, Leisure, and Wellness

Outpost was envisioned not only as an office but as a lifestyle-oriented work hub. Its design encourages interaction, collaboration, and relaxation—whether through casual encounters in public spaces, coffee breaks overlooking greenery, or private niches that support concentration and creativity. The interiors use warm wooden finishes, open layouts, and biophilic elements that foster both comfort and cognitive well-being.

The project embodies the principles of urbanism and spatial interactivity, offering flexible zones where professionals can shift between productivity and leisure without disconnecting from nature. Outpost becomes a place where working hours are enriched by a direct connection to Nosara’s tropical environment.

  • Biophilic design connecting people to greenery and natural surroundings.
  • Blackwater treatment systems for onsite irrigation.
  • Locally sourced and recycled materials to reduce environmental impact.
  • Sun protection, vertical and horizontal parasols, reflective surfaces, and shading systems for optimal energy efficiency.
