Parconido Bakery Cafe by sukchulmok – A European-Inspired Culinary Retreat in Goyang-si, South Korea
Parconido Bakery Cafe in Goyang-si blends European-inspired architecture, warm red brick, travertine, and wood, creating a cozy, immersive bakery experience.
Parconido Bakery Cafe, designed by sukchulmok, is a serene culinary retreat in northern Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. Inspired by the charm of European town squares, the cafe blends classic materials and simple geometries to create a cohesive, inviting atmosphere. Every detail—from the furniture to the lighting—is carefully designed to unify the space and evoke a sense of warmth, comfort, and leisurely enjoyment.

A European Square Reimagined
The design concept reflects the vision of the client, who spent years in Italy. Rather than mimicking European architecture, the space interprets the essence of communal squares, where people gather under the sun between red brick buildings and stone pillars. The resulting environment balances homage with originality, offering a space that is familiar yet unique.

Materiality and Craftsmanship
Parconido’s columns, rounded walls, and arches follow a consistent 600mm radius, establishing unity without monotony. Constructed with stacked clay bricks coated over iron frames, these elements achieve structural elegance and visual harmony. Custom furniture, crafted in circular forms from concrete, wood, and metal pipes, complements the architecture, subtly highlighting the space without distraction.
The cafe’s travertine limestone flooring, walls, and ceiling nod to classic European fountains, cut into delicate 1.5mm squares. Rounded edges blur boundaries between surfaces, expanding the perception of space and creating a weightless, immersive experience for visitors.

Warmth and Comfort in Every Corner
The combination of red brick, travertine, and wood produces a warm, calming interior. The cafe’s symbolic motif—a baby bird resting in a nest—represents comfort, growth, and a nurturing environment. This analogy resonates with the client’s journey of launching a new business, inviting visitors to relax, unwind, and enjoy both culinary delights and serene design.

A Complete Sensory Experience
Completed in 2022, Parconido Bakery Cafe is more than just a place to enjoy freshly baked goods—it is a destination for memory-making. With handcrafted lighting, custom furniture, and attention to every architectural detail, the cafe embodies a holistic experience where space, taste, and atmosphere come together seamlessly.
