Pastelowe Pâtisserie by Znamy się: Coastal-Inspired Interior Design Meets Warsaw Café Culture
A Portuguese surf-inspired pâtisserie in Warsaw, blending wave geometry and warm materials into immersive, coastal-inspired interior design.
A Slice of Portugal in the Heart of Warsaw
Tucked away in the Solec district of Warsaw, Pastelowe Pâtisserie is a compact 90-square-meter space that captures the sensory warmth of the Portuguese coastline through its thoughtfully curated design. Designed by Znamy się, the interior pays tribute to the art of coastal-inspired interior design, drawing from the ocean’s rhythms, textures, and colors to create an immersive atmosphere that matches the bakery’s signature treat—pastéis de nata.

Conceptual Foundation: From Surfing Waves to Spatial Rhythm
The story behind Pastelowe begins with a surf trip. Inspired by the anatomy of ocean waves—specifically the beach break, point break, and reef break—the interior design translates these natural forms into a spatial narrative. Benches and dividing mirrors echo the soft, rolling nature of beach breaks. Wall-mounted shelving patterns express the linear, ordered flow of point-break waves. And the sculptural, tunnel-like pastry counter reflects the unpredictable and powerful dynamics of a reef break. These architectural interpretations transform the space into a visual and experiential metaphor for surfing, infusing movement and energy into a small but flexible layout.

Spatial Experience: Engaging with Architecture Through Form
Despite its modest footprint, Pastelowe Pâtisserie maximizes impact through strategic form and flow. The fluidity of the counter invites free interaction, encouraging guests to move intuitively through the space. Each element within the café is sculpted to enhance this dynamic—a design decision that merges storytelling with function. The carefully curved edges and rhythmic forms allow the architecture to speak the language of waves, creating a calming yet animated environment.

Material Palette: Surf, Sun, and Shoreline Hues
One of the most defining characteristics of the interior is its coastal-inspired materiality and color palette. The warm tones of oak plywood evoke sandy beaches, while glossy steel and foil finishes mimic the glint of sunlit waves. The ceiling, covered in textured yellow spray foam, recalls sea foam under sunlight, wrapping the entire room in a warm, cheerful glow. Accents of deep marine blue echo the bakery’s brand identity and serve as visual anchors amidst the pastel softness, tying the interior experience directly to the product it celebrates.

Atmosphere: A Sun-Drenched Escape from Urban Routine
The success of Pastelowe’s design lies not only in its visual references but also in the atmosphere it creates. Whether visited on a gray Warsaw afternoon or a sunny summer day, the bakery emits a consistent feeling of optimism and warmth. It becomes more than a place to grab a pastry—it offers a momentary seaside retreat, where the senses are met with sun, salt, and sweetness. The architecture is immersive, reflecting not just a look, but a lifestyle rooted in coastal calm and artisanal passion.

Design Narrative: Coastal-Inspired Interior Design as Sensory Storytelling
At the heart of the project is a balance between aesthetic storytelling and craftsmanship. Every design decision, from material choice to form and layout, contributes to a larger narrative. It’s a celebration of dreams realized—of a surf memory turned into a daily experience for guests in Warsaw. The result is a bakery that doesn’t just sell pastéis de nata, but offers a complete design experience shaped by the ocean, grounded in architectural clarity and emotional resonance.

Reimagining Hospitality Through Coastal Inspiration
Pastelowe Pâtisserie demonstrates the power of coastal-inspired interior design in redefining urban hospitality. With its dynamic spatial language, natural materials, and emotional storytelling, the space exemplifies how architecture can elevate small businesses by rooting design in personal meaning and universal imagery. For anyone stepping into the café, it’s not just a place—it’s a journey, a sunlit memory, and a space where design and delight converge.
