Addressing Privacy and Aesthetics
The Block Wall House is situated on a distinctive triangular property that extends 110m along a busy road, posing unique challenges for privacy and interaction with the natural surroundings. nendo’s architects devised an ingenious solution by constructing concrete block walls that act as filter screens, which are carefully angled to control sightlines and exposure.

The Role of Concrete Block Walls
The design utilizes approximately 2,050 staggered blocks arranged in parallel rows to form five 3-meter-high walls. These walls are not merely structural but are pivotal in defining the internal spaces of the home. By adjusting the angles of each block by three degrees, the architects ensured tailored privacy levels for different areas such as the bedroom and bathroom, while also enhancing the spaciousness of the living and dining areas.


Sustainability Features
Innovative Use of CO2-SUICOM Concrete
A central feature of the Block Wall House is its use of “CO2-SUICOM,” an eco-friendly concrete that reduces CO2 emissions significantly during production. This material, developed in collaboration with several Japanese corporations, captures CO2 from the air as it hardens, potentially reducing the total CO2 emissions associated with its production to net zero or less. This innovation marks the Block Wall House as a leader in sustainable building practices.
