Senior Living Architecture: Innovations at VILVIF Senior Residence
Explore the architectural innovation in senior living at VILVIF Senior Residence, Berlin, blending modern design with historical preservation.
The VILVIF Senior Residence, designed by Tchoban Voss Architekten, represents a pinnacle in senior living architecture. Situated in the scenic locale of Berlin-Gruenau, this complex combines historical elegance with modern living solutions. The project includes the preservation of the historic Riviera Ballroom and the façade of the former Gruenau Gesellschaftshaus, integrating over 200 barrier-free apartments into a setting that is both idyllic and convenient.

Architectural Design and Planning
Integration with Historical Structures
At the heart of the VILVIF Senior Residence is the thoughtful integration of new structures with historical elements. The project honors the architectural heritage of the late 19th century while introducing modern facilities tailored to senior living. TCHOBAN VOSS Architekten have masterfully planned two new buildings on the waterfront and two more on the land side, each designed to harmonize with the neighborhood's diverse architectural styles.

Innovative Façade Design
The façades of the new buildings are a testament to innovative senior living architecture. They feature differentiated designs that respect the historical context yet introduce modern elements like perforated façade cladding and French balconies. These features not only enhance the aesthetic appeal but also improve the living quality for the residents by maximizing light and views.

Interior Design and Amenities
Focus on Barrier-Free Living
The interior of the VILVIF Senior Residence is designed with accessibility at its core. All apartments are barrier-free, reflecting the latest standards in senior living architecture. The interiors are planned by JOI-Design Innenarchitekten, featuring wide doorways, spacious bathrooms, and kitchens equipped for accessibility.

Community and Wellness Facilities
The residence offers a variety of services to enhance community living. These include a spacious reception area with concierge services, dining facilities, and rooms for fitness and wellness activities, including a swimming pool. The design incorporates communal rooms in the U-shaped building near the Riviera Hall, fostering a sense of community among residents.

Landscape and Public Spaces
Landscaping by atelier VAN GEISTEN
The landscaping of the VILVIF Senior Residence, designed by atelier VAN GEISTEN, complements the buildings with a well-kept garden area that includes a riverside path. This offers residents tranquil spaces to relax and engage with nature, reinforcing the project's integration with its surroundings.

Enhancing Public Accessibility
The design also includes public pathways along the waterfront, promoting openness and access to the green spaces. These paths are designed to connect seamlessly with the community, offering both aesthetic and practical benefits to the residents and the general public.
The VILVIF Senior Residence by Tchoban Voss Architekten stands as a beacon of senior living architecture, showcasing how architectural innovations can enhance the quality of life for senior residents. By balancing historical preservation with modern living needs, this project sets a high standard for future developments in the field.
