Shelter Stay, an innovative urban dwelling designed by TAA DESIGN, is built on a 100 m² plot in the heart of Da Nang’s Son Tra Peninsula. The project addresses the challenge of creating a harmonious living environment within the constraints of typical urban plots found in Vietnam. It seeks to offer an enriching living experience that blends nature with architecture, fostering a connection with the environment while exploring the potential of compact urban living spaces.

Conceptual Design: In contrast to conventional townhouse designs with structured layers and standard balconies, Shelter Stay draws inspiration from the concept of "Urban Tree Blocks." These modular structures offer dynamic layouts, encouraging creative spatial arrangements and multi-functional spaces within the vertical plane. The innovative design embraces the need for adaptability in modern living, allowing for a functional yet aesthetically appealing environment that encourages exploration.

Skylight as a Gateway to Nature:

A key element of the design is the skylight, not only providing natural light and ventilation but also serving as a connection to the outdoors. The skylight offers stunning views of tropical greenery, bringing nature directly into the home. This natural feature enhances the living experience, fostering an emotional connection to the environment. As one ascends the staircase, the journey of discovery unfolds, moving from the ground floor to the rooftop, where nature continues to integrate seamlessly with architecture.

Interior Design & Green Integration: The fusion of architecture and interior design is evident throughout Shelter Stay. The space is thoughtfully organized with green natural blocks that serve dual purposes—both as outdoor planters and as functional interior elements, such as wardrobes, desks, and even bathrooms. This versatile approach to design creates a vibrant and spontaneous atmosphere, where each area evolves into its unique identity.

Materials and Craftsmanship:  The materials used in Shelter Stay reflect the craftsmanship and emotional connection that the design aims to evoke. The exterior’s washed stone facade creates a tactile, rough surface that contrasts beautifully with the lush greenery surrounding the house. This material choice not only enhances the building’s resilience to the Central Vietnam climate but also adds a dynamic visual quality as it interacts with sunlight throughout the day. Inside, handcrafted paint finishes add warmth and personality, further connecting the occupants to the space.

Shelter Stay:  More Than Just a HomeShelter Stay is more than just a place to live; it is an immersive experience that celebrates the intersection of nature and architecture. Its thoughtful design and innovative use of space make it a perfect example of sustainable, urban living in Vietnam. By fostering a deeper connection with the natural world, it offers residents a unique opportunity to live harmoniously within an urban environment.
