Strandvejen 35 Summer House by Jesper Kusk Arkitekter: A Masterpiece of Compact Living
A compact, sustainable 46m² summer house blending Danish tradition, modern efficiency, and eco-friendly materials, offering stunning coastal views.
A Modern Take on Traditional Danish Fisherman’s Houses
Nestled along the scenic coastline of Følle Strand, the Strandvejen 35 Summer House by Jesper Kusk Arkitekter is a stunning example of compact, sustainable architecture. Inspired by the historic fisherman’s houses of the region, this 46m² summer retreat harmoniously blends tradition with modern efficiency. The design features three interconnected volumes, strategically positioned to offer breathtaking views of Kalø Bay.

Optimized Small Living: Smart Use of Space
In an era where sustainable architecture demands smaller, smarter homes, Strandvejen 35 sets a new standard. Despite its modest footprint, the house accommodates up to seven guests, thanks to an innovative spatial layout. Sliding doors create flexible interior zones, ensuring both privacy and openness. Walkways and window alcoves double as functional living spaces, transforming every corner into a purposeful retreat.

Natural Light and Connection to Nature
Maximizing daylight and ventilation, the house incorporates strategically placed skylights and floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the surrounding landscape. This seamless integration of indoor and outdoor spaces enhances air quality and thermal comfort, making the compact space feel more expansive. Built-in benches and cozy nooks invite residents to experience nature year-round, even during Denmark’s colder months.

Sustainable Materials and Low Carbon Footprint
Committed to eco-friendly construction, the project utilizes locally sourced Danish oak for both the facades and roof. The primary structure is built entirely from wood, a renewable and low-carbon material. According to a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) by Artelia, the house achieves an ultra-low carbon footprint of 6.7 kg CO2-e/m² per year, placing it within Denmark’s voluntary low-emission category.

Architectural Collaboration and Craftsmanship
Designed in collaboration with Artelia and constructed by MALA, the summer house reflects a dedication to high-quality craftsmanship. Key materials include solid oak plank floors from Dinesen, high-performance Krone Vinduer A/S windows, and artisanal surfaces by Made a Mano.

A Future-Oriented Approach to Sustainable Living
Strandvejen 35 is more than a summer house—it’s a blueprint for the future of residential architecture. By prioritizing compact, high-quality living and sustainable design, Jesper Kusk Arkitekter demonstrates that small spaces can be both functional and luxurious.
