Sustainable Coastal Architecture: Pasha by Studio Saxe
An exploration of Pasha by Studio Saxe, highlighting sustainable coastal architecture in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica.
Pasha, designed by the renowned Studio Saxe, represents a pinnacle in sustainable coastal architecture, set against the idyllic backdrop of Santa Teresa, Costa Rica. This 1025 m² project, completed in 2022, serves as a paradigm of how modern architecture can harmonize with environmental sensitivity.

Project Overview
Pasha stands out as a beacon of sustainable coastal architecture. This collection of residences, commissioned by international clients, transforms a pristine estate into a hub for communal living while offering private retreats. Each home within the estate is crafted to blend seamlessly with the untouched coastal landscape, providing a sanctuary that reflects the serenity of its surroundings.

Architectural Concept
Embracing Nature
The core concept of Pasha is an architectural embrace between the lush natural environment and the azure waters of the ocean. Designed to create a constellation of homes around a grand villa, the structures are ingeniously integrated into the landscape, offering unobstructed views and an immersive experience with the ocean’s elemental power.

Natural Materials and Design
Studio Saxe selected natural materials such as locally sourced sustainable teak wood, crafting expansive terraces topped with sugarcane ceilings. This design ethos not only fosters a profound connection with nature but also enhances the living experience by inviting the outdoors in. The pavilion-like structures offer secluded retreats and convene for communal activities within the generous embrace of the main villa.

Sustainability Features
Eco-friendly Strategies
Sustainability is woven into the very fabric of Pasha’s design. The elevated structures are a strategic response to protect the estate from coastal elements and to minimize the environmental footprint, allowing the natural landscape to thrive. Extended rooflines and strategic vegetation placements provide natural cooling and sun protection, showcasing a perfect blend of aesthetic appeal and ecological responsibility.

Innovative Construction Techniques
The construction of Pasha utilizes a blend of robust concrete and warm, organic wood, adopting a modular approach that emphasizes precision and craftsmanship. This method facilitates the replication of design elements across the estate, ensuring consistency and attention to detail.

Pasha by Studio Saxe is a testament to sustainable coastal architecture, blending innovative design with environmental stewardship. It stands as a model for future architectural endeavors, proving that luxury and sustainability can coexist beautifully. This project not only enhances the natural landscape but also sets a benchmark for future developments in tropical architecture.
