The In-Between
A skyscraper to connect
As cities increase in density, so do the different actors that play a role in the city and its quality of life, meaning different actors and parties converge in the same place. What the project does is to take seemingly opposing actors and evaluate their contrasting nature to create an in-between that makes it possible to appreciate and live between differences.
Located in India, a country that stands out for being in a dialogue that blends the old and the new, the project is created to make a discourse between two or more parties and serve as a transition between a local and a global city, between a natural environment and an urban one. Likewise, it responds to the problem of the river as a limit that segregates the eastern part from the western part, at an intermediate point between the residential overcrowding of the center and the expulsion to new satellite cities; recovering elements of the landscape that will later create new ways of participating in between different parts.
To do so, different strategies were adopted, starting with its morphology. The building starts off as two towers to organize public and private life, and by doing so, it allows the different views to be not only framed by the space in-between, but also be reflected in the opposing building. The two building composition also enables a framed connection with the sky as it frames it in the center space that is created between the two towers. As the idea is to connect opposing things, the building looks to connect with the city with its first floors, with a fabric like landing that welcomes the city to participate in the building. This participation doesn't end in the first floors as the elevator allows the community to participate in public activities in the towers. These communal spaces are the ones that connect the two towers. To make it possible, technology comes into place with a set of diagonal elevators used to make a connection between the towers.
Overall, the proyect is a way of connecting different ways of being in a building.
