The Longcave 2 House by 23o5Studio: A Meditative Journey Through Space and Light in Củ Chi, Vietnam
The Longcave 2 House blends cave-inspired spatial voids, natural light, and minimalist design to create a tranquil living retreat.
The Longcave 2 House, designed by 23o5Studio, is located in the serene rural landscape of Củ Chi, Vietnam. Completed in 2020, the project occupies a narrow plot measuring 10 x 50 meters. More than just a residence, this home is conceived as a sensory and spiritual retreat—drawing deep inspiration from the geological and emotional experience of Son Doong Cave, the largest cave in the world.

Concept: Architecture as Emotional Shelter
Rather than focusing on conventional room divisions, the house embraces architecture as a sequence of emotional voids. The design removes traditional walls and boundaries, creating an interior that flows organically through differentiated volumes and open zones. Each section of the house offers a unique spatial feeling, carefully crafted to evoke stillness, reflection, and a sense of retreat from the external world.

Light, Material, and Spatial Transitions
Natural light is a key design element, used to define zones and transitions. Carefully orchestrated lighting—both direct and indirect—animates the interiors with shadow play, contrasts, and calming gradients. The material palette remains minimal, allowing the texture of concrete, wood, and local finishes to speak for themselves and enhance the meditative atmosphere.

Blurring Boundaries Between Inside and Outside
The design intentionally dissolves the line between interior and exterior, connecting occupants with nature, climate, and time. Internal courtyards, framed gardens, and perforated facades allow air and light to flow freely, enhancing comfort and sensory richness. This spatial openness supports a lifestyle in harmony with the natural surroundings.

Technical Details and Collaborations
The house integrates modern building components from Schneider Electric, Jotun, MOEN, and AA Window, subtly complementing the rawness of the architecture. Led by Ngô Việt Khánh Duy, the project reflects 23o5Studio’s philosophy of human-centered, context-sensitive design.

A House That Empties Fear and Holds Calm
The Longcave 2 House is not merely a functional dwelling—it is a spatial experience designed to remove anxiety and embrace tranquility. Like its namesake cave, the house encourages introspection, silence, and a deeper connection to one’s surroundings. It stands as a poetic example of contemporary Vietnamese architecture that prioritizes emotion, atmosphere, and the essence of dwelling.
