Villette Apartment by miogui: Compact Living Reimagined in Paris
Villette Apartment by miogui transforms a compact Paris home with flexible partitions, open-plan living, and smart, space-saving design solutions.
Located in the heart of Paris, the Villette Apartment renovation by miogui exemplifies how thoughtful architectural adaptation can support evolving lifestyles—without the need for relocation. Completed in 2023 and captured through the lens of photographer Philippe Billard, this project showcases the intelligent reuse of space in a compact urban apartment, guided by themes of adaptive reuse, modular design, and contemporary family living.
With the arrival of a new baby, the clients were faced with a common urban dilemma: move to a larger space or creatively reconfigure the one they already owned. They chose the latter—collaborating with miogui to unlock hidden spatial potential within their existing apartment. The result is an intimate yet highly flexible environment that responds to both functional needs and emotional comfort.

Transformative Spatial Strategies for Growing Families
One of the most inventive solutions is the integration of a baby’s room within the living room, delineated by a custom-designed folding wall. This partition is clad in mirrors to visually expand the room and “disappear” when not in use, allowing the area to transform based on the child’s activity—be it sleeping, playing, or family time.

An Open Kitchen Anchors Modern Living
The formerly enclosed kitchen was opened up to the living room to create a fluid, communal living space. This reconfiguration encourages interaction and connectivity between spaces, promoting a more modern, shared lifestyle. A cleverly designed technical band runs along the angled wall, incorporating discreet storage solutions hidden behind soft curtains—enhancing functionality without compromising aesthetics.

Expressive Use of Color and Materials
Throughout the apartment, color becomes a tool for spatial definition and emotional expression. From the bedroom to the kitchen, each hue underscores the function of individual zones while also highlighting architectural elements—whether structural, functional, or purely decorative. This subtle yet intentional use of color imbues the apartment with personality and clarity.

A Minimal Footprint, Maximum Flexibility
The Villette Apartment stands as a model of urban spatial intelligence—where limited square footage meets responsive design thinking. Instead of expansion, the focus here is transformation. miogui’s approach offers a blueprint for how small urban apartments can be reimagined with flexibility, beauty, and practicality in mind—supporting changing family dynamics without sacrificing architectural integrity.
