Amphibious Commons

Amphibious Commons is a strategy that works across public spaces in Kerala, from a single cluster, to a market, to a regional transit network. During flood conditions, it restores what the flood removes, a shared ground plane, and in post flooding conditions, this public ground becomes a formwork for bamboo reinforced concrete construction.

Mother river

Climate change has been present for a long time and affects the environment and the entire living world. The direct consequences of climate change can cause significant problems and that is why this project is considering a climate adaptable system in order to continue food production.

A nice design that could have been even more braver in its adhoc nature. The hexagonal organisation is quite cliched for such floating settlements.

What a thoughtful, evocative and beautiful concept. Loved everything about it from the self sustaining design for food, energy and waste, the restorative idea of building the mangroves as the society grows and moves, and the society, complete with a bakery, seafood nursery and school. The design also looks comfortable and aspirational, and the mangrove is a beautiful foundation for the concept. Well done!

Radical, futuristic and explorative. Modules are quite applicative, but doesn’t offer various options for further development. Lack of analysis for supporting system such as energy and self-sufficient methods.

It offers something new which I do not see on other entry. However, some improvement in the method of presentation is necessary to articulate some of its space composition.

BAUTSTOP

During this project, anticipation acted as a driving force. The question was, "What can a bus stop in Germany solve? Additionally, to be a bus stop, it is also a flood assembly point. The second factor was innovation, specifically how to deal with the flood problem to save lives. and make a flood responsive bus station, and yet sustainable.

Hanna Richardson

Great idea, presentation & execution! Developing this idea from recent incidents worldwide of floods this idea is thoughtful, innovative & designed along the Bauhaus narrative. Well done!!

ATHENAEUM, from sanctuary to cultural habitat

The definition of Athenaeum has changed through the course of time. From a sanctuary to an educational institution, it has always been a place for those who seeked for improvement and inspiration. This design preserves this spirit, fulfilling the needs of the present. Afloat on water it looks at ease, while mitigating consequences of climate change.
