Educatorium for the young

The site we studied is located at the foot of the Senjak slope, between the fragmented residential structure of Senjak on one side and the hectic road gliding by the Belgrade Fair on the other. The key imperative of the spatial context becomes the sunshine, or rather the lack of it, due to the the entire location being built into the sloping terrain and oriented towards the north.


The project aims to introduce as much natural light as possible into the building. The theme is carried out by vertical hollowing out of the building mass, and in this way forming the main openings in the structure - themed courtyards, as well as smaller atriums framed by porous pillars. The program is devoted to future education and creative development of young people. Various contents of such typology and its specific spatial requirements naturally influenced the architecture during the design process. The main carriers of the spatial aesthetics of the project are the "playful" ceilings that nest the above-mentioned contents. The educational center is a flexible and luminous space, in which the inside-outside barrier is blurred.
